Big Tex, R.I.P. | Friday Oct 19, 2012
Garland Explores: The State Fair of Texas, Dallas. After 60 years and having waved to millions of visitors, the career of Big Tex, the 52-foot icon of the state fair, tragically ended Friday. As fast as the fire that consumed him, which apparently started in his boot, news quickly spread around the world, even being announced on the Drudge Report, in instant messages, and major news media from coast to coast. Big Tex started from humble beginnings, working a few years after World War II in Kerens before landing the Texas State Fair gig. Next of kin were all the citizens of Texas. In lieu of flowers, please support your local mascot.
